Last night marked the 2nd meeting of Lady Jane’s Salon and it was quite an amazing time! I’m so lucky to have a hubby who enjoys romantic outings just as much (if not more!) than I do!
We arrived around 7pm and made straight for our “usual” spot on the red velvet settee. Seated next to us was Sarah from Smart Bitches, Trashy Books who was there blogging about the event, and who featured Eric and me in her own blog 🙂
After settling in with a $5 glass of Pinot Noir, Lauren Willig *squeal* stepped up to begin her reading from her newly-released, NYT Best Selling book, The Temptation of the Night Jasmine. Lauren ranks as one of my all-time favorite authors and it was so exciting to get to hear her read. She has such an amazing sense of humor and within the first couple of lines, she had the room giggling at her pithy dialog and colorful characters. If you’ve never read her, please pick up the first in the Pink Carnation series, The Secret History of the Pink Carnation. You will be HOOKED!
After a short break, we were treated to a special performance from founding member, Maya Rodale’s boyfriend. Apparently he made a bargain with Maya – though I can’t remember the exact terms – and his reward for winning was that he could read a piece of his own work. Trying to explain it just wouldn’t do it justice, but rest assured, Eric and I almost fell off the settee with laughter. It was a very tongue-in-cheek, self-aware take on romance that was executed in a charming British accent (yes, he’s really British). I really hope he pursues publication because I think the market could use more of what he’s putting out.
Sadly, Jenna Peterson was snowed in (or out, I guess) and couldn’t make it to the event. However, the lovely Leanna Renee Hieber stepped in and read the prologue from Jenna’s latest release, Lessons from a Courtesan. The alpha hero and the virgin bride are sure to make a wonderful story, so pick up your copy today! And keep a lookout for her upcoming release Her Notorious Viscount, hitting shelves March 31, 2009!
Once we had bought and had Lauren sign our copies of her last two releases, we stayed to chat for a while. I truly love Lady Jane’s Salon! It’s such a great way to meet other romance authors and forge new friendships in a truly romantic setting. Having my hubby there was icing on the cake!
